DJ D-Rashid has been spinning for over ten years. He learnt his trade growing up in Amsterdam. Today, he is resident in clubs worldwide, playing venues in France, Turkey, Agadir Morocco and the Dutch Antilles. He is well and truly established on the Dutch circuit, playing at large-scale events such as Ambassador (to over 18.000 people!) Latin Village Festival, Dance Valley, Lowlands, Mystery Land and all other major dance venues in Holland.
Production-wise Rashid has completed a couple of tracks with Madskills on the Alcuzar label, selling over 1500 copies in the process. Rashid has also turned in several remixes with Rishi Bass entitled Lafexa and Raw. The tracks are due for release in May 2006 on G-REX, the label of Gregor Salto
and are set for big things. As Rashid himself explains, Lafexa is a Latin floor-filler with a catchy bass-line and a big room sound and is forthcoming on Big Boss records (distributed by Astral). The second track, entitled Raw on G-Rex records, is a raw mix of minimal break-beat and Latin combined. Elements from both styles are combined with a twisted pumping drive creating a rollercoaster ride across genres.
His latest remix is from the Cape Verdian group 'Quatro +'. The track is entitled Cre Sabe and is doing well on G-Rex Records on promo with the likes of Lucien Foort, Laidback Luke and Gregor Salto supporting. Could it be the Latin buzz track of the summer?
Ever-busy Rashid also runs an event agency with his older brother. For more than eight years the duo has hosted an event every last Sunday of the month called 'Salsa Lounge' in the Hotel Arena venue in Amsterdam. This spring they will start their second year of 'Salsa Lounge' in Rotterdam, at the cities prestigious Now & Wow venue.
Latin Village hits the festival circuit again in 2006 after a highly successful debut performance last year. The brothers brought together 8.000 people on a clear and sunny day in 2005, making it the perfect kick-off. Latin Village 2 will be held July 2, 2006. Crucially, Rashid is currently working on the Latin Village theme together with fellow Dutch producer Lucien Foort.
